Drilling down to more detail on a computer screen, or moving out to see the context, is basic. But it's hardly simple and, after 20 years, innovations are still occurring.

Thanks Gary - good article. The following reference is for the recent article I think you intended to cite in the "Further Reading" section - is it my detailed reflection on ZUIs, explaining in more detail where I think their promise lies, what the challenges are, and a number of design guidelines to make them work well.
