The Biden administration will prioritize cybersecurity in the distribution of $1 billion in technology modernization funds passed by Congress as part of the economic stimulus signed into law in March.
Projects dealing with IT modernization, public-facing services, and cross-agency programs also are among those to be prioritized.
Federal CIO Clare Martorana said, "We plan to use these resources to enable the federal government to better respond to SolarWinds, the COVID-19 crisis, and support the economic recovery."
The plan includes an overhaul of the Technology Modernization Fund's repayment structure that will not require funds to be repaid in full by recipients whose projects address an immediate security need, like cybersecurity or the pandemic.
