Local and national authorities in Ukraine have deployed technology as part of a wide-ranging investigation into alleged war crimes by Russian forces in the town of Bucha.

Investigators from prosecutors' offices, security services, and Ukraine's Justice Ministry are analyzing security-camera videos and using facial recognition software and other forensic means to compile evidence of atrocities.

A team of data specialists is downloading still and moving images from social-media accounts to match Russian faces to alleged crimes; investigators are showing these pictures to witnesses.

Meanwhile, attorneys are reviewing the metadata of video clips recorded in Bucha during the occupation to help guarantee their viability as evidence in international courts.

Dozens of drones also have been dispatched over Bucha to chart a digital map onto which investigators can place locations and details of alleged crimes.
